Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a widespread virus in domestic and wild pigs and is theprimary cause of this disease in pigs. Wild boars are hosts for PCV2 and infections in thesespecies have been identified in many countries around the world. The aim of this study was toperform a serological testing for the presence of antibodies specific for PCV2 in wild boars.Serum samples from 50 wild boars from 5 different locations were tested by indirect ELISAmethod. From each location 10 sera were examined from wild boars older than 6 months.Seroprevalence ranged from 20 to 80%. Overall there were 28 (56.0%) seropositive wildboars. Only one location seroprevalence was less than 50% and was 20%. This test confirmedthat wild pigs can be hosts for PCV2 and showed that the virus is widespread in Serbia, aswell as the other parts of the world. This study suggests that it is necessary to examine moredeeply and extensively the serological status of feral pigs, both in terms of PCV2 and otherviral diseases, since it is feral pigs that play a significant role in the transmission and spreadof pig disease.
