Production potentials and exports of the food industry of Vojvodina

The food industry is a relatively important sector of the Serbian industry, especial ly in Vojvodina. The mill, sugar, and oil industries are of the greatest importance and, to a lesser extent, the slaughter industry. For the afore mentioned sectors in Vojvodina, there are strong resource potentials in terms of the production of raw materials and significant processing capacities. This paper aims to point out the main problems of the most important branches of the food industry of Vojvodina through the analysis of production potentials and export performances. Results showed that Vojvodina?s food industry is characterized by great diversity in ca pacity, technological level, and marketing approach. Although small enterprises are present to a certain extent, the food industry?s main characteristic is oversizing in almost all segments and divergent development after the privatization that has been carried out in the past two decades.
