Tenebrio molitor L. genetic parameter estimates of growth and development characters

The main aim of this study is to estimate the genetic parameters of T. molitor,which has a high protein and fat content, especially as an alternative nutritionalsupplement for feeding poultry and pet animals. In is study, as the characteristics ofdevelopment of larval weight (SDLA), pupa weight (PA), adult weight (EA), larvallength (LU), duration of pupa (PS), duration of pupal stay (PKS) and the number ofindividuals in the family (FBS) were evaluated as reproductive characteristics.Estimates of heritability of late larval weight, pupa weight and adult weightcharacteristics in the survey were; 0.45, 0.65 and 0.43, respectively. Estimates ofheritability for the developmental periods in the study are; 0.27 for the duration ofthe pupa, 0.91 for the duration of the pupal stay, and 0.32 for the adult period. Theheritability for the number of individuals in the study was estimated to be 0.98.According to these results, it can be said that the developmental characteristics ofT. molitor are genetic improvement potential.
