Effects of differrent rootstock on fruit quality and storage of Akko XIII and Gold nugget loquat varieties

In this study, fruit quality and their storability of Akko XIII and Gold Nugget loquat varieties which are grafted on Quince, Hawthorn and Loquat rootstock seedlings were investigated, in Serik-Kayaburnu, Antalya in 2009 and 2010 years. The effects of rootstocks on fruit storage were evaluated in cold storage (5 ± 0.5 C° and 90 ± 5 % Rh) and room (20 C° and 70 ± 5 % Rh) conditions. In addition, shelf-life of fruits after cold storage conditions was deteminated at 20 C° and % 70 ± 5 RH for two days. Fruits were analyzed to 3 day and 15 day intervals for cold storage and room condition, respectivety. Fruit weight, fruit firmness, fruit skin color, fruit/seed rate, soluble solid content, titratable acitidy, pH, maturity, total phenol, ethylene production, respiration rate and sensory analysis were evaluated to determine the effect of rootstocks on fruit quality. In addition these analysis, weight loss, CO2 and O2 rate, fruit decay rate and fungal agents were determined in fruit samples after cold storage. The same analysis were replicated for shelf-life studies. Fruits covered and noncovered (control) with stretch film were stored in packages of two kilograms. Trials were conducted according to completely randomized desing (CRD) with three replications As a result, according to fruit quality criteria, Gold Nugget as a variety and quince and loquat as a rootstock may be more appropriate for loquat cultivation. In storage studies, fruits can be stored without losing quality for 30 days in cold storage and 6 days in room conditions and Hawthorn rootstocks were not appropriate for storage.
