Valorisation of Cotton Stems in the Particle Board Value Chain in West AfricaThis article analyzes the possibility of valorizing cotton stems through their insertion in the value chain of particle boards. The study was carried out in three West African cotton producing countries (Benin, Mali and Togo) and took into account three categories of stakeholders namely 320 seed cotton producers, 148 suppliers or traders of particle board and 435 particle board users. The results showed that the annual technical potential of cotton stem in these three countries was about 1.33 million tons. About half of cotton producers (51%) already had valuation practices for these stems. The availability of cotton stems could be used as raw material for particle boards, which could be a substitute for imports, and represents a potential market and a real opportunity for increasing the income of cotton producers. Training of cotton producers on the conservation of cotton stems is necessary for the production of quality and competitive particle board.
