The rich and unique phytogenetic pool of Georgia represents a natural-historical treasure and requires permanent conservation-rehabilitation, as it is exterminated or changes under the impact of various natural disasters or manmade activity. The problem is urgent for our country, which is the primary and secondary center of origin of many cultivated plants and their wild ancestors. The unique species of medicinal, aromatic, honey, spice and poisonous plants predominate here, which are not found anywhere else. Many of them are now on the verge of extinction; erratic processes of genetic resources and uncontrolled exports are underway. Therefore, it is essential to maintain biodiversity by providing ex-situ and in-situ / on farmer’s practices. In order to preserve the genetic species for future consumption, it is imperative to protect the unique flora of Georgia and raise awareness of the importance of rational use, intensify ethnobotanical traditions and phytoproduction promotion mechanisms and use them in accordance with the principles of distribution of benefits based on the rights conferred by the Convention on Biological Diversity of which Georgia is a member.
