The threshold quantity of Echinochloa oryzicola in forage rice produced in the north Tohoku region

In order to determine the level of weed control needed in forage rice produced in the north Tohoku Region, we evaluated the threshold quantity of Echinochloa oryzicola at harvest time. The threshold was quantitatively assessed in terms of preventing a decrease in the total digestible nutrients (TDN) yield by weed contamination, preventing quality deterioration of forage rice silage by high moisture content, and preventing an increase in seed density in the soil as a source of weed infestation. The threshold was mainly restricted by preventing an increase in seed density in the soil and was restricted by quality deterioration only in the case of an early harvest time. Preventing a decrease in the TDN yield by weed contamination did not restrict the threshold. In general, as the harvest date becomes later, there is a decrease in the threshold. The threshold quantity of E. oryzicola was estimated to be 114 g DM /square m in late August and 11 g DM /square m in mid-September.
