New pest fungus gnats (Diptera: Mycetophilidae) of oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq.: Fr.) Kummer

Three species of fungus gnats, Brachypeza armata Winnertz, 1863, Mycetophila ishiharai Sasakawa, 1991, and an unidentified species of Rondaniella Johannsen, 1909, were reared from oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq.: Fr.) Kummer. Among them, B. armata is suggested as a pest of cultivated oyster mushroom to cause gill-knot disease of the mushroom as Allodiopsis domestica (Meigen, 1830) does. The three species reported here were smaller than A. domestica and were larger than 1 mm in body size. We suggest that covering the inoculated logs of the oyster mushroom by 1 mm mesh screen net, which has been used for control of A. domestica, is also effective to control these three species.
