The anatomical and fibre morphological studies of sesenduk

Tree of 17-year-old sesenduk were selected for anatomical and fibre morphological studies. On the transverse section, there are vessels with simple perforation, moderately large in size, few in number, few as solitary, predominantly in radial pairs and multiples of 2 to 7 in a series and occasional clusters. The tangential diameter of vessel ranges from 120-300µm and the frequency is 1-3mm² seriate, 500 to 1500µm high, heterocellular with procumbent and upright or square marginal cells. Wood parenchyma are regularly spaced in apotracheal bands and visible to the naked eye. Fibres are non septate; crystals present in rays and axial parenchyma but silica areabsent. The fibre length, fibre diameter, fibre lumen diameter and fibre wall thickness, of the sesenduk were 2025 µm, 45µ, 35µm and 5.1 µm respectively. Fibre length tends to increase from pith towards the bark whereas on the longitudinal direction, fibre length tends to decrease from the basal towards the top of the tree.
