Agnesbekken : et urbant vassdrag for fisk og mennesker | Agnesbekken : an urban river for fish and people

English. Historically, the river «Agnesbekken» was used for various industrial purposes and formed the border between Stavern and Larvik. Nowadays, the new landscape plan «Sjøparken» aims to rebuild the old industrial site into a new living area including houses, a kindergarten, a commercial building, and a park. Agnesbekken is an important point of focus of this plan as the former sea trout spawning river has been inaccessible to them for a long time. In my work, I have designed a landscape plan of the river which aims both to enable sea trout migration back in the river and to offer people a better opportunity to experience the river ecosystem. To ensure that the river regains its function as a spawning and rearing habitat for sea trout, I have performed a field analysis of the river and assessed its connectivity regarding sea trout migration by using the Dendritic Connectivity Index (DCID). Through this assessment, I highlighted 2 barriers of special interest: a dam and a raised culvert. In my design, the replacement of the dam with a fish stairway was one of the main focuses as it increases drastically the connectivity of the river. In addition, I opened the bottom of the culvert and designed the riparian vegetation around the river to improve the living conditions of sea trout. Another aspect of the landscape plan is human recreation. Therefore, I designed the park and the river surroundings to offer a nature experience to people. This includes a boardwalk along the river, explanation signs about the history of the site, the biodiversity and the ecosystem, an open aquarium to observe sea trout in the autumn, a lunch area, and animal statues designed by a local artist. The aim is for the area to have an important teaching value for the local kindergarten. This landscape plan is a proposal for a green-blue network design that lays the groundwork for future plans.

Historisk sett ble «Agnesbekken» brukt til ulike industriformål og dannet grensen mellom Stavern og Larvik. I dag tar det nye utbyggingsprosjektet «Sjøparken» sikte på å bygge om den gamle industritomta til et nytt boligområde med hus, barnehage, næringsbygg og park. Agnesbekken er et viktig fokus i dette utbyggingsprosjektet da det tidligere sjøørretførende bekken har vært utilgjengelig for fisken lenge.I mitt arbeid har jeg utformet en landskapsplan som har som mål å invitere sjøørreten opp tilbake i bekken og gi folk en bedre mulighet til å oppleve bekkens økosystem. For å sikre at bekken gjenvinner sin funksjon som gyte- og oppveksthabitat for sjøørret, har jeg utført en feltanalyse av bekken og vurdert dens konnektivitet med hensyn til fiskevandring ved å bruke Dendritic Connectivity Index (DCID). Gjennom denne vurderingen var det 2 hindringer av spesiell interesse: en demning og en høy kulvert ovenfor. I arbeidet mitt har utskifting av demningen med en fisketrapp vært et av hovedfokusene da det drastisk øker konnektiviteten til bekken. I tillegg byttet jeg ut kulverter med gangbroer med naturlig bunn og la tilrette for kantvegetasjonen rundt bekken for å bedre levekårene til sjøørreten.Et annet aspekt ved landskapsplanen er menneskelig rekreasjon. Derfor tegnet jeg parken og bekkens omgivelsene for å tilby en naturopplevelse til folk. Dette inkluderer en bryggesti langs bekken, informasjonsskilt om stedets historie, det biologiske mangfoldet og økosystemet, et åpent akvarie for å observere sjøørret om høsten og barnas kystpark med dyreskulpturer designet av en lokal kunstner. Målet er at området skal ha en viktig undervisningsverdi for den lokale barnehagen. Denne landskapsplanen er et forslag til blågrønt nettdesign som legger grunnlaget for fremtidige planer.
