The article discusses the causes and content of the peasant reform of 1861 (the abolition of serfdom) in Russia, the main aspects of resolving the land issue, redemption payments, transforming the position of the peasantry and other class and social strata of post-reform Russia. The significance of the reform for the evolution of agrarian relations in Russia is investigated. The main results of modern agrarian policy in Russia are revealed.
