Karakteristike tržišta uljane repice u Republici Srbiji | Characteristics of the rapeseed market in the Republic of Serbia

The main aim of the research is to analyze characteristics of the rapeseed market in the Republic of Serbia as well as thebalance of foreign trade. The first part of the paper explains the basic characteristics of the world rapeseed market, andthen the emphasis is placed on the characteristics of the rapeseed market in Serbia. Trends on the rapeseed market wereviewed through the movement of yield, total production, prices in the previous ten years, and the foreign trade balanceof oilseed rape was also examined. Rapeseed is, according to the area it occupies, the third oilseed crop in the Republicof Serbia, right after sunflower and soybeans. In the observed period (2010-2019), a tendency to increase the area atan annual rate of 11.03%. The yield of oilseed rape in the Republic of Serbia in the last ten years ranged from 2.0 t /ha in 2010 to 3.2 t / ha in 2014, while the average is slightly more than 2.7 t / ha with an annual growth rate of 3.39%.Serbia has a positive foreign trade balance with a balance of 15,668,000 US dollars (USD). Also, Serbia imports verylittle amount of rapeseed, only 734,500 USD from all over the world, of which 55% refers to imports from France. Onthe other hand, a significantly higher value of rapeseed is exported from Serbia. The annual average of the total exportsof Serbia is 16,403,300 USD, of which 42% refers to Germany. EU countries do not have enough good conditions toproduce rapeseed, so Serbia should use the chance to provide a raw material base for EU member states.
