The article considers the degree of reduction of the machine and tractor fleet of the Russian Federation, the reasons for this process and the risks associated with it. Analysis of state programs and departmental subprogrammes aimed at supporting the renewal of the material and technical base of crop production of the Russian Federation is being carried out. The results of implementation of these programs in recent years and analysis of the effectiveness of support measures depending on the region are given.
