Increasing wheat yield and evaluation of energy balance using combustion calorimetry
2020
Hnilicka, Frantisek | Martinek, Petr | Hnilickova, Helena
Changes in wheat varieties over the years in relation to yield growth are shown. The need to increase the harvest index while maintaining the length of stem led to an increase kernel weight per spike. The possibility of further increasing the spike grain weight through changes its morphological structure (supernumerary spikelets, long glume) is discussed. The possibility of using combustion calorimetry to study the energy distribution during the plant growth is indicated. Evaluation of the plant weight biomass and its energy equivalent is an important indicator of wheat production potential not only in optimal but also in stressful conditions.
