Evaluation and planning of the sustainable forest management in landscape level in Hojancha, Costa Rica | Evaluación y planificación del manejo forestal sostenible en escala de paisaje en Hojancha, Costa Rica

El objetivo general de esta investigación fue contribuir a la planificación integral de la producción forestal sostenible y de la conservación ambiental en escala de paisaje en el cantón de Hojancha. Para esto se levantó información sobre la oferta forestal, la demanda de madera, el conocimiento local, la capacidad de uso y el uso actual del suelo y el vínculo entre la producción y la conservación en el cantón. La metodología utilizada partió del desarrollo de un marco lógico de investigación, el mismo que recopila aspectos claves del proceso de investigación como: objetivos, preguntas claves, información requerida, actividades principales, recursos necesarios y tiempos estimados. Adicionalmente, la metodología descansa en tres ejes: el sistema de información geográfica, las perspectivas locales y el sofware de manejo forestal SILVA, el cual se centra en el ordenamiento de la producción forestal. En definitiva, las muestras de madurez y de coordinación interinstitucional son un potencial importante para la cogestión de los recursos naturales en Hojancha, donde las actividades de conservación y desarrollo se ven fortalecidas por el sector institucional.The study's main objective was to contribute to an integral planning for sustainable forest production and environmental conservation at a landscape level in Hojancha County. In order to do so, information was collected on forest supply, demand for timber, knowledge of the local community, the land use and land use capacity, and the link between production and conservation in the county. The methodology used came from the development of a logical research framework, one that collects key aspects of the research process such as: objectives, key questions, required information, main activities, required resources and estimated timeframe. Additionally, the methodology rests on three central ideas: geographic information system, local perspectives, and the forest management sofware SILVA, which is based on forest production land use plan. Truly, the signs of maturity and inter-institutional coordination are of importance for the joint management of the resources in Hojancha, where conservation and development activities are strengthened by the institutional sector.
