El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el comportamiento hidrológico de los sistemas ganaderos convencionales y sistemas silvopastoriles en zonas de recarga hídrica de la subcuenca del río Jabonal. La investigación se realizó en fincas que forman parte del proyecto CATIE-GEF-Banco Mundial "Enfoques Silvopastoriles para el Manejo Integrado de Ecosistemas", ubicadas en la subcuenca del Río Jabonal, Barranca, Costa Rica. Los sistemas silvopastoriles mostraron brindar mejores beneficios hidrológicos en la zona de recarga que las pasturas sobrepastoreadas, ya que disminuyeron la escorrentía superficial, incrementaron la infiltración y favorecieron a una mayor conservación de agua en el suelo. This main objective of this research was to evaluate the hydrological performance of livestock production systeMON conventional and silvopastoral in the recharge zone of Jabonal River, Costa Rica. The research was developed in several livestock farMON that participate in the CATIE-GEF-Project"Silvopastoral SysteMON Approach to EcosysteMON Management". Silvopastoral systeMON (native pasture with trees, improved grassland with trees) showed better hydrological benefits than the native overgrazed grasslands, because they reduced runoff, improve infiltration rate, and improved the soil moisture content.
