Honduras aims to promote tourism towards protected and wild areas, in order to contribute to the development of marginal rural areas, justify the existence and revenue of the protected areas, and complement incomes obtained through other productive activities. The Montaña de Celaque National Park (PNMC), is considered one of the most attractive parks in the country, due to its capacity as a water source, ecological features, biodiversity and for being the highest mountain in the country. The development as protected area could imply use competition between the objectives of conservation, biodiversity, water use, ecouturism income and productive activities. The purpose of the present study is to contribute to the development of Ecotourism in three communities surrounding the PNMC. Considering, the SOWT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis application, potential and actual tourism product and services were identified, the attributes and levels were identified from the strengths and opportunities for the application of the choice experiments (CE). These attributes were tour guide, food, information, lodging, transport, craftsmanship, and a monetary attribute denominated price. The CE based on a cyclical factorial design of the attributes' levels was used to analyze how a change on the attributes' levels affects the utility of the national and foreign tourists' preferences. The selected preferences where performed through the conditional and multinomial logit, having as result that five of these attributes were highly significant for both tourist populations. Finally, the Marginal Willigness to Pay (MWP) was obtained for these attributes, tour guide was the attribute of most importance for both national tourists and foreign tourists, with a MWP of S2.54 y S7.57, respectively.

Honduras aspira a promover el turismo orientado a las áreas protegidas y silvestres por que es una actividad económicamente atractiva que a su vez puede contribuir al desarrollo de regiones rurales marginales, a justificar la existencia y rentabilidad de las áreas protegidas y a complementar los ingresos obtenidos de otras actividades productivas. El Parque Nacional Montaña de Celaque (PNMC), es considerado uno de los más impresionantes en el país por su potencial como fuente de agua, características ecológicas, biodiversidad y por ser la montaña más alta del país. El desarrollo como área protegida puede implicar competencia de uso entre los objetivos de la conservación, biodiversidad, uso del agua, ingreso por ecoturismo y actividades productivas. El presente estudio tiene como propósito contribuir a impulsar el ecoturismo en tres comunidades ubicadas en el entorno del PNMC. Por lo tanto, con la aplicación del análisis FODA, se identificaron los productos y servicios potenciales, y que actualmente son ofrecidos por estas comunidades. Luego de las fortalezas y oportunidades se identificaron los atributos y niveles utilizados en la aplicación del experimento de selección genérico (ES). Estos atributos son guía turístico, alimentación, información, hospedaje, transporte, artesanía y un atributo monetario denominado precio. El ES, basado en un diseño factorial cíclico de los niveles de atributos, fue utilizado para analizar como los cambios de los niveles de los atributos afectan la utilidad de las preferencias de los turistas nacionales y extranjeros. las preferencias seleccionadas se llevaron a cabo por medio del análisis logístico condicional y multinomial, teniendo como resultado que cinco de estos atributos fueron altamente significativos para ambas poblaciones de turistas. Finalmente, se obtuvo la Voluntad Marginal de Pago (VMP) para estos atributos, siendo guía turístico el atributo de mayor importancia tanto para los turistas nacionales como para los turistas extranjeros, con una VMP de S2.54 y S7.57, respectivamente.
