The book describes the biology and peculiar life cycle of lampreys in an exciting, popular science form, traces the ancient history of lamprey fishing, and collects the stories of fishermen, cooks and merchants about the relationship with the peculiar creature, which, as it turns out, is a fish after all. However, the main section of the book is the recipes — different ways to bake, boil, stew or otherwise prepare lamprey for the festive table. The recipes are taken from professional chefs and delicatessen masters, found both in conversations, on the Internet, and in printed recipe compilations, including very old ones.
