Productivity and quality of cherry fruits depending on the apple cutting system
2022
Șarban, V. | Balan, V.
During the years 2018-2020 in the central area of the Republic of Moldova to evaluate the effect of cutting cherry trees (Prunus avium L.) from CV “Skeena” and CV “Kordia”, grafted on Maxima 14, during the rest period and during vegetation: pruning at rest (control); pruning during flowering; cutting after 360 harvest (July); pruning in early autumn (first decade, September). Fruits with a diameter of 24 mm and less were reduced in all variants. Pruning in early autumn reduced the amount of small fruit and promoted fruit yields with a diameter of 28 mm and more, and the increase in fruit size was accompanied by a slight increase in fruit yield. The soluble dry matter content and the titratable acidity in the fruit were not affected in most cases. Vegetation pruning appears as a practical study to improve the quality and distribution of fruit on commercial sizes, without affecting crop yields, but should be studied in the long term to assess the effects of the pruning period on yield and especially, of the commercial category of fruits.
