The Importance and Usage Areas of Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench)

Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) not only meets the nutritional needs of the rapidly increasing world population and animal assets, it is also important in industrial production. Gluten free grains provide positive effects in the treatment of celiac patients (gluten allergy). Seeds of buckwheat are consumed by poultry; while straw and silage of it are consumed with appetite by ruminants. It contains high levels of protein, vitamins, phenolic compounds, antioxidants, minerals, unsaturated fats and has an important place in the use of medical fields. Buckwheat is one of the rare plants that can be used in enriching the soil in terms of organic matter, improving its physical structure, protecting excess soil moisture, as a green fertilizer, and in erosion control.
