The lack of evidence, to date, of a public health risk being associated with cysticerci found in wild herbivores in Africa suggests that it may be unnecessary to reject as unfit for human consumption carcasses that are lightly infected with muscle cysts. However, there is a need for further research into the identity, life cycle, and infectivity of wild animal tapeworms.
