Testing of rotan manau [Calamus manan] - strength and machining properties [rattans]
1982
Goh, S.C. (Forest Research Inst., Kepong (Malaysia))
The first of test material was tested green while the second batch was allowed to air-dry and tested when the moisture content reached 15 percent. Bending, compression parallel to the grain and side hardness tests were also conducted using method similar to the testing of timber, Bs 375, British Standards Institution, 1957. The strength properties of Rotan manau in the air-dry condition were consistently greater than those obtained in the green condition. Cross-cutting and planning was easy in either condition
