Chemical control on downy mildew of maize

The studies on chemical control of downy mildew of maize at the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center, Pakchong, Nakornrajsima province showed that Difolatan 80 WP, Dithane M-45, 80 WP, and DPX 3217, 80 WP at 1000 ppm can inhibit condial germination of downy mildew fungus of maize. Alternate spraying with Duter and Dithane M-45, and Dithane M-45, Difolatan, DPX 3217 and Manzate D cannot provide protection at any time. Seed treatment with Demosan 10 D at a rate of 60 grams for 1 kilogram of seed can protect about 2-3 weeks after emergence. The good resistant variety of maize is Suwan I when planted before the disease outbreak. A new systemic fungicide, Ridomil, sprayed 4 times at a rate of 0.2 g/liter gave very effective protection in all varieties of maize. Soil drenching and seed treatment at a rate of 2.5 g-ai for 1 sq.m. yielded very good protection. Treated seed could be kept for a long time and did not lose germination. Super sweet corn treated with Ridomil at a rate of 5 g-ai/liter spray was protected well
