In a 112 days test 0/8/16 p.c. partly debittered, defatted lupines (Lupinus mutabilis) were employed in isonitrogenic and isoenergetic laying rations; the defatted lupines still had a residual content of 0.30 p.c. alcaloids. With increasing contents of defatted lupines in the rations laying rate, feed intake, feed efficiency and egg weight were decreased. With increasing contents of defatted lupines in the rations the alcaloid content in the yolk but not in the albumen was increased. Approximately 10 p.c. of the still in the defatted lupines remaining alcaloides is eliminated by the yolk. In the organoleptic test the eggs of these hens which had been fed with the rations containing 16 p.c. defatted lupinus were rejected because of their bitter taste. With 8 p.c. defatted lupines in the rations the taste threshold for alcaloides was remained under
