Achievements in fibre flax breeding

A large number of fibre flax lines were obtained at Research Station for Pasture Plants Magurele-Brasov in the period from 1970 to 1976. They were studied in preliminary trials at the same station and in competitive trials at the Research Agricultural Station Livada and at the Research Station for Potaoes - Miercurea Ciuc, in 1981-1983. The stalk and fiber yields, fiber content and quality, as well as some physiological characteristics and the resistance to Fusarium spp. were recorded. The experimental results reveal the progress achieved in the last ten years in fiber flax breeding with special concern to high fiber content of the newly obtained lines, as compared to old cultivars.
