Agricultural development of Trinidad and Tobago - Is it the responsibility of the farmer or scientific researcher?
1984
Jones, M.T. (Ministry of Agriculture, Lands and Food Production, Centeno (Trinidad and Tobago). Central Experiment Station)
The burden of agricultural development in Trinidad and Tobago seems to rest only on the farmer and the agricultural scientist (researcher). The researcher is responsible for finding improved technologies for local agricultural development. Accurate determinations require time, but the researcher is often pressured for quick and easy solutions - under conditions of relatively poor remuneration and status compared to similarly qualified non-agricultural professionals, and in the absence of adequate funding and facilities. It is suggested that all sectors of the economy should share the responsibility for development of the agricultural sector, which is so vitally important to the country as a whole
