A comparative study on technology package for growing modern variety of rice (BR11) [Bangladesh]

Field experiments involving four packages of production practices for a modern variety of rice BR11 were conducted at Thakurgan, Bangladesh during wet season of 1984 and 1985 to compare their effect on rice grain yield. The production packages were (1) Farmers practice (FP), (2) Line transplanting superimposed over FP (LT), (3) LT with recommended fertilizer (LTF) + one time insecticide spraying, and (4) LTF + recommended insecticide spraying (MT). In both years MT and LTF produced significantly higher grain yield than FP and LT. The highest grain yield was recorded from MT (5.308 t/ha in 1984 and 5.069 t/ha in 1985) LTF gave 27% higher yield in 1984 and 23% in 1984. LTF also gave the highest (448%) marginal rate of return (MRR) in 1984 and (419%) MRR in 1985.
