A comparative study of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), malic dehydrogenase (MDH) isoenzymes and proteins from the seeds of Hibiscus sabdariffa and H. cannabinus and those of their F(1) hybrids was carried out by means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. In the hybrid some isoenzyme and protein bands were missing; in addition there were some new bands. The results confirmed that the population reported earlier as F(1)s of the two Hibiscus species truly represented the hybrid nature of the material.
