Response of rice to phosphate dissolving fungi and bacteria as affected by triple super phosphate [in Bangladesh]

A field experiment was conducted on non-calcareous dark grey floodplain soils of Bangladesh Institute of Necluar Agriculture farm with two phosphate dissolving fungi (Aspergillus awamori and A. niger) and three bacteria (Pseudomonas striata 27, Bacillus megaterium TSR III and B. polymyxa H(5)) in presence of three doses of triple super phosphate (at 0, 60 and 90 kg P(2)O(5)/ha) to investigate response of rice with respect to yield and yield contributing characters. All the cultures responded significantly in increasing tiller number, shoot weight at 60 days of plant growth, thousand grain weight and grain and straw yield. A. awamori among the fungi and P. striata among the bacteria perfo1192rmed better. Higher dose of triple super phosphate was not found congenial for the growth of rhizosphere microorganisms. The available phosphorus and total number of microorganisms in rice rhizosphere at mid flowering stage was found positively correlated. A drastic reduction in microbial population was recorded at harvest. Phosphate uptake was significantly higher with individual culture treatment than control at all the levels of TSP but it was identical when mixed cultures were incorporated with the rice seedling-root before transplant
