Influence of sowing date and plant population of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) production under rainfed conditions of Jordan
1988
Haddad, N.I. | Thalji, T. (Jordan Univ., Amman (Jordan))
To evaluate the effect of planting date and plant population on the yield and other agronomic characteristics of faba bean under rainfed conditions of Jordan, combination of three planting dates and five population densities were used in a split plot experiment with four replications at two locations and two growing seasons. Results showed that early planting in November resulted in a substantial yield increase which was more than double that produced when planting in January. A plant density up to 25 plants/m2 resulted in the greatest yield with a reduction of the higher densities. The greatest yield was obtained under the co1521mbination when planting in November at the density of 17, 20 or 25 plants/m2. Early planting resulted in more pods produced, taller plants and greater root dry weight, nodule number and nodule dry we
