Effect of various growth stages on the dry matter yield and nutritive value of soybean

This experiment was conducted to study the effect of various growth stages on the dry matter yield and chemical composition of soybean for forage. The treatments were measured at four harvest dates, from the bloom stage to just before the dough stage. A pure stand with 22 plants/m2 was sown in plots, 4 rows x 0.5m x 2.0m with four replications. The plant heights were 84, 124, 149 and again 149cm at bloom, mid-formation of pod development, complete formation of pod development, and just before dough stage, respectively. Dry matter (DM) content increased with advancing maturity, from bloom to just before dough stage, DM varied from 15.8 % to 28.6 %. Leaf weight ratio (LWR) decreased with advancin1372g maturity from mid-formation of pod development to just before dough stage, falling from 59 % to 37 %; stems increased from 41 % to 44 %; pod + grain increased from 6 % to 26
