Corn was the best substrate for spawn production. It gave the thickest and more compact growth, 92.060%, followed by soybean leaves, 99.266%; ipil-ipil leaves, 89.733% and chicken manure, 87.598%. The slow growth of mushroom organism was recorded in the horse manure with mean score of 71.73%. Plant materials used as substrates for mushroom spawn were superior over the animal manures in terms of mycelial appearance and chlamydospore colonization
