[Variety experiment of apple at Malang (Java, Indonesia)]

Varieties of apples had been tested at Banaran Experimental Garden from December 1980 to December 1982, on latosol soil. A complete randomized design was tried including 9 varieties. These are: Princess Noble, Manalagi, Rome Beauty, Red Rome Beauty, Cahort I no. 23, Cahort I no. 25, Cahort I no. 27, Mc Intosch, and Winter banana. The result showed that Manalagi variety of two years old gave the highest result (3,38 Kg.) which was followed by Rome Beauty variety (2,59 Kg.). Vegetative growth also showed the same result. Manalagi variety gave an outstanding result in case of stem cycle growth (7,68 cm), the most number of branches/tree (3,66) and the rapidity of shoot growth (4,85).
