Effect of planting date and tuber seed sources on the vegetative growth of Fall and Spring potatoes at Khabat-Arbil

The first and second planting dates (1st and 15th August) of fall season resulted in increasing plant height as compared with other planting dates along the experiment. The dry matter content of the vegetative system was also increased in the plants belonging to these dates of planting. However planting on the fifth date (1st October) resulted in increasing the number of stems per plant as compared with other planting dates. Spunta cultivar gave longer plants, higher dry matter content of vegetative system through out the experiment, as well as highest average number of stems per plant as compared with clauster cultivar. The spunta cultivar in the first and second planting dates gave longer plants and higher dry matter content of vegetative system. Spunta cultivar grown 1st October gave greater number of stems per plant. Late planting dates of the spring season (15th March and 1st April) resulted in increasing the vegetative growth at early stages of growth, however early planting dates (1st, 15th February) caused that at the later stages of growth. There were no significant differences between the tow sources of potato seed in regard of vegetative growth characteristics. No significant interaction was found between seed source and planting dates
