The effect of some pyrethroid insecticides on the chemical and physical properties of Egyptian cotton fibers

An experiment was conducted to test effect of pyrethroid insecticides on the Egyptian cotton fiber samples (Giza 81/82) in Kafr-El-Sheikh Governorate. The applied insecticides were Cyfluthrin (baythroid), Sumicidin (fenvalerate 20%), Ripecord (cypermethrin 30%) and CCN-52 (cypermethrin 10%). Extensive different measurements were undertaken to test the cotton fibers including X-ray diffraction, dye adsorption values, moisture regatian and iodine sorption. The crystallinity percentage and dye uptake were evaluated as a function of insecticide treatments. It was found out that all insecticide treatments always tend to decrease crystallinity percentage with an increase in the sorption of the cotton properties. It has also been noticed that cypermethrin (30%) was the most effective insecticide for inducing changes in the cotton fibers properties.
