Effect of kinetin on the biochemical constituents of tomato plants under different levels of salinity [Egypt]

Salinity reduced the dry weight, weight of fruits and total yield of tomato plants, but kinetin treatments decreased the harmful effect of salinity and improved the salt tolerance of plants. Also, salinity decreased chlorophyll a and b, whereas, increased carotenoids and Chl. a/b ratio. Under saline conditions leinetin increased the content of Chl. a and b. By increasing salinity levels, the activities of catalase, amylase, invertase and peroxidase increased especially in the presence of kinetin. High levels of salinity increased the reducing sugars and soluble nitrogen in both roots and shoots of tomato plants, whereas, kinetin treatment could partially overcome the disturbances occurred in carbohydrate and nitrogen frations in roots and shoots of tomato plants grown under salinization. The concentration of phoshorus and potassium in roots and shoots of tomato plants increased by kinetin treatment under salinity condition.
