Effects of refrigeration on moisture content measurement by moisture tester on grains [Egypt]
1988
Hemeda, M.A. (Mansoura Univ. (Egypt). Faculty of Agriculture)
Accurate measurement of moisture content is important because all grains are traded by weight and the allowable storage time is reduced by an increase in moisture content. Moisture testers are widely used now in moisture determination in fields and trade. These testers convert a dielectric measurement to percentage moisture. The objectives of this study are to test the effects of refrigeration on moisture determination of corn by moisture testers. Oven test results showed no significant difference in moisture content of corn refrigerated 96 hr., compared to corn tested fresh. But there was a significant difference of moisture content determined by the moisture tester when using refrigerated corn compared to fresh corn.
