As a consequence of the rapid spread of the white potato cyst nematode G. pallida, testing for resistance to this parasite is a routine element in the selection of new potato cultivars. In this investigation, the nematode resistance of seedling populations has been determined in transparent plastic containers. Highly significant differences were found for resistance between the different crosses. Root-ball counts were satisfactory for assessing the resistance. High correlations were found between the seedling est and the clone test. The seedling test therefore is a suitable method for early selection to G. pallida resistance.
