[Effect of five methods of cultivation on sesame seed crop yield in non-irrigated land in the Alamos, Sonora region]
1986
Beltran Fonseca, M de J. | Fierros Leyva, G.A.
Sesame seeds constitute the crop of greatest socio-economic importance in the non-irrigated farming region of Alamos, Sonora, because of the extension of land it covers and the number of jobs it generates. During the summer of 1983 the following five methods of cultivation were tested: plowing plus disking, chiseling (cinceleo) plus disking, zero tillage (labranza cero) and regional control, using a completely random design. The objective of this study was to determine the optimum farming technique for this crop in the region in question. The results indicate that chiseling plus disking and zero tillage produced the greatest yield of seeds: 1,381 and 1,064 kg/ha; and a greater net profit of $48,534.00 and $40,084.00 (pesos), respectively.
