Analysis of yield components in hybrids between spring and winter feed barley
1991
Vaculova, K. (Vyzkumny Ustav Obilnarsky, Kromeriz (CSFR))
The yield components were analyzed in hybrids of F1- and F2 generations. The performance was studied with selected new lines created by crossing of two-row high lysine spring barley line KM 1057-1924 with a productive line of winter six-row barley, HVW 247. Multirow plants showed an increase in the grain yield, especially as a result of increased grain number per spike (heterosis of 47.75 per cent). Two-row materials overcame not only a low 1000 grain weight of KM 1057 line, but also of the winter line HVW 247. The new lines were marked by a longer stem, various levels of lodging resistance and resistance to powdery mildew, in a great majority also by an increased content of N substances. The nutritive quality of these N substances, however, when expressed by the lysine portion in them, was not adequate to expected demands.
