Effect of phosphate and cation exchange capacity of yellowish red podzolic soil and its relation to the sequences of fertilizer application

Panjaitan, A. | Kosasih (Balai Penelitian Perkebunan Medan (Indonesia))
Results of green house and laboratory experiments showed obviously that the addition of phosphate on yellowish red podzolic soil could increase the soil cation exchange capacity. The addition of 0.5 kg and 1.0 kg of TSP/oil palm would cause increase of cation exchange capacity, respectively by 0.50 and 1.07 me/100 g. Phosphate application prior to the application of urea, KCl and Kieserite was recommended as it might reduce the nutrient losses due to the increase in the soil cation exchange capacity.
