[Identification of toxic compounds in turi (Sesbania grandiflora) seed]

The research to identify the existence of toxic compounds in "turi" seed has been carried out. Experiments showed that the toxic compounds are canavanine, alkaloids and cyanide form. Since "turi" seed's extract was used as source of the toxic compounds, it is assumed that the extract contains at least canavanine, alkaloids and cyanoglucoside. Further experiments however are needed to determine whether the concentration of the toxic compounds are endangering the utilization of the seeds as food-stuff for human consumption.
