Damage to pine stands in areas with increased sulphur dioxide concentrations, as depending on environmental factors

It follows from new findings and from practice that with pine stands the interdependence of exposure to immissions, damage to the stands and the environmental conditions is not as strong as it is with the stands of spruce. Nevertheless, there is evidence to prove that in some aspects the damage to pine stands depends on other factors. An investigation was conducted to see the extent to which the state of the stands is influenced by the altitude above sea level, by the treatment and exploitation of the stands and by the soil. It can be derived from the results that the response of the pine stands to the whole set of immission factors and environmental conditions is markedly different from that of the stands of spruce. Within the studied range, the response is not significantly dependent on altitude above sea level, nor is there any greater difference in the intensity of damage of the exposed and sheltered parts of pine stands. However, the effect of soil characteristics on the rate of damage to the stands was great.
