Two differentiated lines of the rabbits of the New Zealand White breed and their reciprocal crossbreds were subjected to a genetic analysis of their live weight growth. The animals were kept under the same conditions as for climate and nutrition. The lowest birth weight was recorded in the rabbits of the inbred population (49.90 g). The highest weight at weaning at an age of 42 days was recorded in the inbred rabbits (835.80+-167.10 kg) but at an age of 84 days the heaviest rabbits were those of the outbred male X inbred female crosses (2073.91 kg). Genetic analysis, based on estimation of the genetico-heterosis parameters, allowed to find a significant individual effect at the age of 42 days. The maternal effect was significant at an age of 14, 35, 77 and 84 days. A marked heterosis effect on live weight growth was only recorded at an age of seven days.
