Nitrate content in various lucerne genotypes
1991
Macuha, F. | Bielikova, M. (Vyskumny Ustav Rastlinnej Vyroby, Piestany (CSFR))
Marked differences in nitrate content were found among years, cuts, and genotypes of lucerne. In the 1st year, a considerably higher nitrate content was found in stems than in leaves. In the 2nd year, no significant differences were found between the plant parts. Considerable genotypic differences indicate the possibility of selection for the low nitrate content. In both years, the lowest NO3 content was found in varieties Cheronija, Adriana, Pleven 2 and Palava, the highest one was found in Omska variety. Toxicity level in nitrate content (amounting to 3.1 g.kg-1 according to Garner's scale) was not exceeded. A positive correlation was found between the nitrate content of leaves and that of stems.
