Genotype performance of red clover after selection for sclerotinia rot resistance
1991
Vanco, B. (Vyskumny Ustav Rastlinnej Vyroby, Piestany (CSFR))
Generative progenies of 3 new varieties of diploid and tetraploid red clover in various degrees of selection were obtained by repeated selection of surviving plants after infection with the sclerotinia rot (Sclerotinia trifoliorum) in trial plots. Performance tests were carried out under experimental conditions. Comparing the average plant weights in individual stages of selection, the positive effect of selection on the green biomass weight in the diploid form of clover was observed. No corresponding increases in tetraploid plants were recorded. Total clover vitality was influenced by the repeated selection for resistance against sclerotinia rot, and was manifested by increased resistance in V1 - V3 generations (from 2.34 percent to 16.64 percent or 25.9 percent (V3), and 31.6 percent (V2) in case of the new variety No.341).
