Effect of cellulase treatment on the fermentation and digestibility of alfalfa silage fed to swine

The treatment 4 (20 % ground corn grain + 0,1 % Viscozyme) resulted a silage of excellent quality. It showed the most rapid rates of pH decline the lowest final pH, the highest lactic acid content and lowest NH3-N content among the treatments. The application of either 0,1 % Viscozyme or 20 % ground corn grain alone didn't result stable alfalfa silages. The farm scale experiments gave similar results to the model ones. The hemicellulose content was significantly reduced by Viscozyme treatment. Inspite of that, it didn't result any improvement in the digestibility.
