CIAT cassava varieties to be released in the Philippines

Two cassava var. (CM 323-52, renamed VC 1, and G 50-3) have been nominated for release. Field evaluations at the Philippine Root Crop Research and Training Center showed that the former var. has stable performance; av. fresh root yield is 40.8 t/ha, its DM content is 36 percent with medium HCN content, brown root skin, white flesh color, moderately branching stems, and resistance to leaf spot. This var. can be grown in all regions of the country. Its primary targets are the animal feed and starch industries
