The results show that there are close relations between the N content in soil, nitrogen rates and the quality of tobacco leaves. Evaluation of external and internal leaf quality expressed revealed that the optimum nitrogen rate was 20 kg.ha-1. The N content in the soil in the particular growth stages and the basic parameters of quantity and especially quality are in close correlation. A linear regression analysis shows that, in the three years studied, blooming and ear formation have the highest impact with a positive correlation, especially on the contents of total nitrogen, protein, nicotine, and leaves crop, and that they have a negative corelation with regard to the financial evaluation of tobacco production.
