Observations on blight and drying of gladiolus leaves in Israel 1991/2
1992
Klein, M. | Caspy, I. (Agricultural Research Organization (Israel). Dept. of Ontomology)
Severe silvering and blight of gladiolus leaves were observed during 1991/92 winter, on plants cultivated in greenhouses in the coastal plain in Israel. Growers erroneously assumed that the western flower thrips (WFT) was the causal agent, and insecticides were applied accordingly. However, laboratory examinations proved that the damage was caused by mites, belonging to an undetermined species. Subsequent studies were carried out in order to characterize the symptoms of damage by WFT to gladiolus, and to distinguish its injury from that caused by mites.
